🔴 Challenges
Cucumbers have numerous problems which every farmer faces, year in and year out.  The biggest challenge is water and soil management.  Water is a huge problem for small growers to supermarket farmers. Too much water leads to the cukes being drowned resulting in wilted and yellow cucumbers. Not enough water leads to dried out the fruit which leads to bitter fruit.
☝️Solution for water 💧
A solution to that there isn’t too much water that could drown the cukes is that there is plenty of drainage for the excess water to run off.  Another issue is the soil that the cukes have been planted in. Cucumbers can grow quite large however, these plants do have a short root system which allows they can grow closer to each other and crowded roots will not be an issue. The pH level of the soil is important when growing cucumbers as cucumbers thrive in soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0 so ensuring the soil is at the right pH is essential to ensure the best fruit for consumers.
🪰 Pests 🪰
There are 2 types of cucumber beetles, striped or spotted. Cucumber beetles damage the crop by transmitting bacterial wilt disease. Primarily young cucumber plants are more vulnerable to bacterial wilt disease. The disease causes leaves to become yellow or brown and the plant eventually withers or die. Unfortunately, there is no cure for the disease and the crop will need to be discarded.  Adult cucumber beetles also scar the fruit which reduces its marketability reducing profit.
