Fertiliser is a material of natural or synthetic origin and is applied to soil to supply plants with nutrition and increase fertility.

There are two types of fertilisers, organic and man made.

🌏Organic fertilisers🌍

These are naturally sourced and contain essential nutrients. Organic fertilisers reduce the need for the application of synthetic fertilisers to maintain soil fertility. Moreover, organic fertilisers have many benefits, such as they gradually release natural nutrients back into the soil and improve the structure and crop growth due to the energy source provided to the soil microbes. Another advantage is that organic fertilisers are slow releasing, its they say for alternatives to man made fertilisers. However, a problem with the use of organic fertilisers is that if they are not used properly, it can lead to over fertilisation and/or nutrient deficiency in soil

Man made fertilisers are manufactured from overtop or natural gas. Containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium these are commonly known as NPK fertiliser 

NPK fertilizer is primarily composed of three main elements: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K), all of these are needed for plant nutrition. Nitrogen helps plants grow quickly, while also increasing the production of seed and fruit and also aids in photosynthesis.

Phosphorus helps with ability of the plant to withstand stress and encourages the l growth of roots, and promotes blooming.

Potassium, the third essential nutrient plants demand, assists in photosynthesis, fruit quality, the building of protein, and the reduction of disease.

🌱What is fertiliser made from? 🌱

Typically fertilisers are made the chemicals of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus which is known as NPK fertiliser. However, some companies are moving away from NPK fertilisers and using Advance Micronization Technology (AMT) this enables extremely rapid particle collision contributing to fast and affordable decrease of particle size and increase of specific surface. Different farmers use different fertilisers but many use the common NPK  however some farmers use organic fertiliser which can be made from micronised minerals which are safer for the environment and improve the health and growth of the crop.

To grow plants fertiliser is not a necessary however it can benefit the overall plant when used correctly, a common problem traditional farmers are finding is that after using npk it has reduced the efficiency of the soil as it has stopped all the nutrients and caused stress this leads to farmers having to use fertilisers more of yield and plants to ensure that they grow which can harm the planet. Some farmers have switched to more natural fertilisers which benefit the planet reducing co2 but still being effective is giving the plant stronger roots as well as improving the soil structure making it the prefect soil for the plant/crop to thrive.
